Courses

Lieksa Brass Week organizes courses for professional and amateur players of all ages during Lieksa Brass Week. Registration starts in the end of 2023. Places will be filled in the order in which applications were received. The courses will begin with briefing sessions unless otherwise informed. Timetables and other information about the courses will be given by e-mail.

STUDENT-PRICED TICKETS and other benefits

  • Concert tickets with reduced price are available for Lieksa Brass Week students.

  • If you want to book tickets in advance, please send a message to info(at)lieksabrass.com and we’ll send you a booking link (after you have made your registration).

  • By using that link you can buy your tickets with reduced price (you may buy one student-priced ticket / concert).

  • Student-priced tickets must be paid when ordering and you can also pick them up from our student info.

  • Tickets can not be booked for later redemption. Tickets can not be refunded or changed!


STUDENT CONCERTS

If they wish, all students may participate in the Lieksa Brass Week student concert.
​Please inform the organizers in advance if you wish to participate. The deadline for doing this and for supplying the music for the accompanying pianist will be informed to students.


TRAINING FACILITIES

Students may use rehearsal rooms at the music school and schools reserved for the use of Lieksa Brass Week when those rooms are not used for other purposes.


ACCOMMODATION

The number of hostels and hotels in Lieksa is limited. Please start organizing your accommodation as soon as you decide to come to Lieksa. Lieksa Brass Week has mattress accommodation at a school (group room) for 39 € / week. You have to bring your own sleeping bag or blanket, pillow and linen. If you are interested, please contact Lieksa Brass Week’s office, info(at)lieksabrass.com

MASTER CLASS

Sign up for the master classes!

  • Price: see the sign up page.

  • Master class teachers: see the sign up page.

  • The master classes are primarily for advanced music students, professionals and other advanced players.

  • Tuition is organized mainly in groups.

  • The student bring their own instrument.

  • Tuition is mainly in English.

  • Tuition is for the most part held on 5-6 days, 3 h / day on average.

  • Every teacher builds their own curriculum for the course, so the content of the courses may vary significantly across different instruments.

  • Master class participants cannot participate on the ensemble course due to overlapping schedules.


BASIC TUITION

  • Price (includes tuition): see the sign up page.

  • No age limits or former playing experience required.

  • Basic tuition teachers, see the sign up page.

  • The tuition is mainly held in private and possibly in small groups.

  • Each student receives 30 min of tuition per day.

  • The teachers all speak Finnish and also other languages, depending on the teacher.

  • The student brings their own instrument.

  • A student who has paid the course fee for basic tuition may also participate without an extra fee for the ensemble course. In this case, when signing up for the ensemble course, the option "For Basic Tuition Participants"  (0,00 €) should be chosen.


ENSEMBLE COURSE

Sign up for the ensemble course!

  • Available for every brass musician and percussionist.

  • The main goal is to get to know new people and music, learn, enjoy playing and have fun!

  • Price: see the sign up page. The course is free for basic tuition students.

  • The ensemble course personnel: Teemu Salmi, Anna-Leena Lumme and Tomi Nietula. Lieksa Brass Week artists will coach at the course as well. 

  • You can sign up as a full or partial brass ensemble. You can also sign up as an individual and we will then form course ensembles. Course ensembles will be formed for beginners and intermediate players.

  • In the morning the rehearsal is at teacher-led small ensembles. Afternoon the students are assembled into larger ensembles A and B and finally into a larger super ensemble. Days start with warm-up led by the course teachers at 9.00 AM and will end by 3.00 PM. The details might change slightly.

  • Please remember to let us know what kind of notes you need when you register (e.g. in Bb or in C). Materials will be prepared mainly in advance.

  • The ensemble course final concert will take place at the Cultural Centre. 



PASSIVE STUDENT

Sign up as a passive student!

  • A passive student can follow master classes and ensemble tuition passively.

  • The passive student course fee is 100 € for the whole period.

  • You can also sign up as a passive student for a single day for 30 € a day.
