Tuomas Kurki

Tuomas Kurki, a baritone horn player from Kokkola, graduated from Oulu University of Applied Sciences in 2006 as a music teacher under the tuition of Jukka Myllys. In 2010, he completed his soloist specialisation studies at the Oulu University of Applied Sciences, and in 2012 he graduated from the Sibelius Academy with a Master of Music degree with excellent grades. Tuomas has been a master class student of Brian Bowman (USA), Thomas Rüedi (Switzerland), Tormod Flaten and Sverre Olsrud (Norway).
In 2014, Tuomas premiered the Concerto for baritone horn and wind orchestra, commissioned by Johanna Ruotsalainen. He has received a grant from the Finnish Cultural Foundation Lapland Fund for "Fete", which is a composition for wind orchestra and baritone horn by Juha Pisto, commissioned by the Lapland Military Band and Tuomas Kurje. Tuomas premiered the concerto in November 2023.
He has served in the Lapland Military Band as a baritone horn player and low brass section leader since 2006, as a brass soloist since 2015, and as a concert master since February 2020.
