Tanja Nisonen
Tanja Nisonen is a multi-role French horn artist. She is a member of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, teacher in charge at Brass Academy, teacher of French horn at the Turku Music Academy; and a doctoral student at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts, where the subject of her thesis is women composing for the French horn. For Nisonen, it is important to promote, develop, and expand knowledge of French horn music. She has recorded previously unheard repertoire by Nordic composers with the 4th Line French horn quartet.
In spring 2024, Nisonen recorded a solo album "Fanfare pour les Femmes" of French women composers' works for French horn from the early 20th century. The album will be released in early autumn of 2024. She has also served for several years as chairman of the board of the Finnish French Horn Association. In 2023, the association organised the Nordic French Horn Seminar, where Nisonen was the artistic director, and was invited to continue the position for the 2024 festival as well.
Nisonen has actively built her own artistic career by performing both as a chamber musician and as a soloist with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, the Jyväskylä, Lappeenranta, and Joensuu City Orchestras, among others. Her love for chamber music led her to found her own chamber music association, Artsoppa ry, in 2008.
Nisonen has performed at chamber music festivals in Canada, the UK, Sweden, Germany, Spain, and Norway, as well as in Finland.
Invitations to the International Horn Society seminars in Ghent, Belgium, in 2019; and Montreal, Canada, in 2023; have also been an indication of the international interest in her expertise. She has been a guest conductor with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the orchestras of Las Palmas and Santa Cruz.
