Anna-Leena Lumme

Anna-Leena Lumme is a Finnish conductor, teacher and trumpet player.  Ms. Lumme studied trumpet pedagogy at the Pirkanmaa Polytechnic School and trumpet performance at the Oulu Polytechnic School.  In 2013, she received her masters degree in wind conducting from the Sibelius Academy where her primary teacher was Peter Ettrup Larsen.  In addition, she attended conducting masterclasses with Juha Törmä, Atso Almila, Tuomas Hannikainen, Michael Griffith, and Jorma Panula.  

Ms. Lumme is currently conductor of the wind ensemble and trumpet instructor at the Pirkanmaa Music Institute in Tampere, a position that she has held since 2002. In addition, she is co-founder and co-music director of the Finnish Symphonic Wind Professionals, a semi-professional ensemble that performs several times per year.  The ensemble has received wide-spread accolades for their strong musicianship, innovative programming, and collaborations with outstanding guest artists. 

Ms. Lumme is frequently engaged as a guest conductor.  She has also conducted wind bands at multiple Finnish music camps and has worked steadily as a freelance conductor.  In 2019, she was engaged for one week as a guest conductor and lecturer at Georgia State University, in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. She is also an active member and conducting teacher of Pirkanmaa Pinna ry, an association dedicated to organising further training in orchestra conducting. 

Ms. Lumme has been recognized for her outstanding conducting.  In 2014, she was a semi-finalist in the International NordicWindband Conducting Competition wind conducting competition.  In 2017, she was awarded the Finnish Windband Associations' "Vuoden Pinna," a prize awarded to conductors for developing music culture in Finland.
